Kevin’s Upgrade #1, Build Plate

Kevin’s Upgrade #1, Build Plate

Description The default build plate on a Creality CR-10S consists of a glass plate on top or the aluminium heat plate. This bed is notorious for not being level and also creating difficulty with bed adhesion. I had to concur with this when I received my CR-10S and one of the first upgrades I did was to replace it with a Lote glass tile from IKEA. This was successful to some degree but I still found myself looking at gluesticks…

Kevin’s Getting a Brain Transplant and a Facelift

Kevin’s Getting a Brain Transplant and a Facelift

As part of my bonus this year I decided to purchase some upgrades for my Creality CR-10S printer. These include a new controller board, new bowden tube and connectors, a new part cooling fan and a new build plate. These were all purchased from TH3D and are currently somewhere between Chicago and my house. As a result of these upgrades I am going to have to print a new cooling duct to fit the 5015 cooling fan hence the facelift…

More on Alice

More on Alice

Continuing on the Alice in Wonderland theme. This is the latest in the series I am printing for Wendy for the cat show. I am really impressed with this model. It may be hard to see from the photograph but this model has the most amazing eyes. They were built in three layers to give real depth. These prints have really challenged my 3D printer and, as a consequence, have lead me to tuning the hardware and software settings for…

Down the Rabbit Hole

Down the Rabbit Hole

This is what you do when you have a 3D printer and 10 days off work Every component is a separate filament colour. Lots of filament changes. It didn’t go totally without problems! I had to print the numbers about four times to get a complete set and develop a new profile for my printer for some of the smaller, tall components but after four days of printing and frustration It is finally done.

CReality CR-10S 3D Printer

CReality CR-10S 3D Printer

I recently purchased a CReality CR-10S 3D printer from a local ebay supplier. The two main drivers for this were build space and also supportability and accuracy of printing vs my existing Vector V3 printer.  My build volume has increased from a 120x120x150mm build volume to a 300x300x400 which is a substantial distance in space and allows me to print items in a single print that I would previously have had to split into multiple parts and then build together….

Updating my Galaxy Tab S 8.4 to AOKP

Updating my Galaxy Tab S 8.4 to AOKP

I finally got fed up with my Galaxy Tab S running like a dog and always running out of space. I decided it was time to put something a little more vanilla onto the tablet and blow away all of the Samsung provided goodness bloatware. To do this, I went through the following steps:

Retropie – Pi 3 makes a big difference

Retropie – Pi 3 makes a big difference

Last week I decided to upgrade the Raspberry Pi that was running my instance of Retropie. I replaced my original Pi 1 with a much more up to date Pi 3. As I have all my ROMS on an external hard drive this was a very easy swap over. I downloaded the Pi 3 distribution of RetroPie onto a micro SD card and inserted this into the Pi 3. It was then a simple plug for plug replacement swapping the…

Came here and it was broken

Came here and it was broken

Just popped in to check the status of my site and, it appears, the last WordPress automatic update has broken the themes on my site. I have quickly changed to the latest version of the “twenty xxx” series of themes and now it appears I have to recreate my menu. This has been a real week of tech failure for me, both at work and at home where simple stuff is just not working. So annoyed especially as my watch…

Setting up RaspBMC and PS3 PlayTV

Setting up RaspBMC and PS3 PlayTV

I decided to make use of some tech I had lying around the house.  There was no real need for this as I have most of my streaming and viewing issues solved, but a friend had asked about using a Raspberry Pi as a PVR as well as for watching pre-recorded media so I thought I would cobble together something from what I had lying around the house. You will need: Raspberry Pi Sony PS3 PlayTV device (or other USB…

Telstra 4G – Faster than my ADSL

Telstra 4G – Faster than my ADSL

I recently got a Telstra 4G device to allow internet/email/intranet access to work when I am on my clients site.  This device is worth all of the hassles to get it set up.  The performance is far superior to my ADSL connection at home, at least when I am in a 4G zone.
